JMR FOUNDATION

🏁 What an incredible day at the 2024 JMR Charity Karting Day!

Drivers started arriving at 2pm, with some taking their track walk seriously while others tried sneaky tactics trying to convince their rivals of a reverse layout. Suited up in F1 fashion, qualifying kicked off with a bang. Two Skinny One Fat set the fastest lap at 51.621, just ahead of Red Flags at 51.675. The top 8 were separated by less than a second!

Teams then strategised, many opting for 20-minute shifts to stay fresh for the 2-hour endurance race. Fueled by Freddo’s and Refreshers, drivers hit the grid. With bid for pole shaking up the rankings Red Flags were in pole position, followed by Old Toads and Lost Boys.

The race was fierce, especially between Red Flags and Chambers Racing, with some heated moments. Purple Helmets kept it cool, even posing for the camera. The desire for the JMR trophy was clear, with Chambers Racing’s Nathan Hollings going all out into the tyre wall.

After 136 laps and 2 hours, Red Flags took the chequered flag, earning both the top spot and fastest lap trophy. JLS finished second, and Lost Boys secured third. Nob of the Day went to Team Healey for a memorable backward roll during a driver change!

A massive thank you to everyone who attended and made the day fantastic. Huge thanks to Thruxton Kart Circuit for their continued support, and of course, Go-Kart Kev!

Kev’s efforts have helped raise just under £15,000 for the Foundation.

See you next year! #JMR101

Easter egg tombola raises £597 for the foundation

Sadly the Jude Morris Celebration Race was postponed on Good Friday due to heavy rain leading upto the event, so our Easter egg tombola was due to head up to Hawkstone for the first round of the Fastest40 … then the heavens opened again … and that event had to be postponed.

… we had 123 Easter eggs that had been kindly donated by family and friends – what were we going to do with them? Karen (Jude’s Auntie) and Maria contacted Longthorns Farm near Wareham and asked if they could join their Easter activities.

Dave Garland and the team raise £3000

A huge thank you to Dave Garland and the team for their sterling job at the Yamabar at VMXdN Foxhill this year, where they raised £3000.

Their idea was simple … to support the Jude Morris Racing Foundation with free hospitality in their team pit area, where everyone could get up close to the riders and bikes and in return donate funds…….did it work?……they absolutely smashed it!!…… and already Graham aka Roly is planning a bigger and better bar with a bit of an Ibiza 90’s vibe for 2024.

Thank you to each and everyone of you who went and had a drink with the team and made a donation.

We always knew the MX community was one big family and the support and feedback Dave and the team received over the weekend continued to strengthen that view. On the last night when the Yamabar ran out of drink, a number of people donated drinks from their own campers and offered to buy them back too as they continued to donate funds into the charity pot.

And to top off the weekend, Chambers Racing, Crescent and Garland Powersports joined forces in Team JMR101.  Team JMR101 was made up of Tom Grimshaw (21) Sam Nunn (19) and Liam Garland (20) and they smashed it……and will return to VMXdN Foxhill with the number 1, 2, 3 plates in 2024.

FootGolf raises £1,000 for the Foundation

A Huge thank you to Luke Coker and Ollie Beamish who popped over to our stand at the MX Nationals and handed us a donation of £1,000 to the foundation … Here’s how they raised the money:

FootGolf – have you heard of it? It’s similar to golf but with a football!  The aim of the game is to get your football in the hole with as few kicks as possible.

Last week MV Haulage, owned by Matt Verbeeten, and United Grab Hire, owned by Mark Howland, decided to have a little friendly game at the Gatwick FootGolf, a purpose built 18 hole FootGolf course in Surrey.

Matt and Mark put in £500 each into the prize pot, which would go to a charity of the winning teams choice.

Each team was made up of 6 players.  It was a close game but MV came out on top!

Luke told us “As United Grab and MV are both in the motocross world, with United Grab supporting ASA United Troy Lee gasgas for many years and MV and me supporting Ollie Beamish and other local riders with our own team, everyone involved in the FootGolf agreed that giving to the Jude Morris Racing Foundation was the best thing ☺️. “

“Myself, and I know others, loved watching Jude ride – what a great style he had. I only spoke to him once at the MX Nationals but what a lovely boy; so polite” ❤️🌻

We, of course, want to celebrate Jude in the best way possible which is to hold a race meeting for people to remember him and raise money for his foundation at some time in the near future.

We would like to thank Tony and Rachel and all the team from Falcon MX, the team from Duns MX, which is an outstanding track and facility to race.

Watch this space for more details.

Riley Butterworth

Challenge completed and target smashed!

As a foundation rider, Riley was set a challenge to help raise funds for the amazing celebration race meeting to be run by Falcon MX on the 27th & 28th August 22 in memory of Jude Morris #101.

Riley decided he was going to run 1.01km for 101 consecutive days, starting on Tuesday 22nd Feb and ending Friday 3rd June … his little legs did cover 101km and he showed true dedication and determination. Every run was recorded on his strava and he kept us updated on his instagram.

Riley’s the target of £101 – as you can see he smashed that target. The grand total going to JMR Foundation is £1300 (once the gofundme fees have been removed) and thank you to Finlee Pope Racing number #5 who made it a round number.

Massive thank you to everyone who supported Riley and well done Riley! 👏👏🌻

Local MX club raises money for the Foundation

A massive thank you to everyone that took part in the recent two-day meeting with SWMXC (Jude’s local club).

They held a memorial meeting that celebrated a number of riders who have passed away or left us too early. All the team at SWMXC worked tirelessly to put the event on – the club has a new committee this year so this was the first year that the event took place at Landrake (one of Jude’s favourite tracks).

The club held a minute of noise to remember the riders and through various fundraising activities raised a total of £614.60, both JMR Foundation and Friends of Huck Charity received £307.30 each.

From everyone here at the foundation we would like to pass on a huge thank you to the committee for organising and running the event as well as all the riders that attended.

A special mention to a great friend of Jude’s, Harvey James who won the #JMR101 most determined rider awarded.

When in Cumbria … but Foxhills British MX Championship will do!

Egg Dunking, also known as the ‘Egg Dump’ is an old, traditional Easter game originating in the North-Western English county of Cumbria.  32 eggs were hard boiled and numbered; carefully transported the 5.5 hours journey to Foxhills for the easter weekend by Jamie Law and family in the race truck. The game plan was for Apico Husqvarna team members to pay £5 per egg giving them £160 in the winning pot .  £101 would be donated to Jude’s foundation & £59 to the winning egg owner.

To win you had to end the game with an unbroken egg … all 32 eggs were numbered, purchased and dumped.
16 eggs survived round 1
The 16 non-cracked eggs entered round 2
8 eggs made it through to round 3
Then 4 eggs entered the semis finals
The final was between egg number 7, bought by Scott Cannon and egg number 19, bought  by Jack Lindsay’s girlfriend Abbi.

To get to this point the race awning was full of competitors calling each other names, bashing hands that were protecting most of their opponents eggs and with so much eagerness to win 🥇 Scott took the win, with his lucky number 7 egg, and donated the full amount to Jude’s foundation ❤️🌻

Thank you Scott, Jamie and everyone involved!

Pedal for Pints fundraiser

Those of you based here in the South West will know the name “(Bryan) Badger Goss” one of the original off-road MX racers, from back in the day when legends were created. Badger was a British Champion; MXoN winner … to name just a few of his racing successes.

His family have had a shop in Yeovil for as long as I can remember. The last time I went there with Jude, Badger was there and talked to him about riding, telling him to keep the wire tight!  The shop is now run by his son Jeff, since the sad loss of Badger.  Jeff is also a former rider and supporter of many local riders in the area.

Each year, Jeff and his crazy bunch of head-banging mates hold a pedal for pints event and raise money for charity (basically they get drunk on push bikes) cycling between pubs on an arranged circuit where at each pub drinks and games are held. This year they chose to support the JMR foundation.

Jeff said “Pedal for Pints went unbelievably well, couldn’t ask for a nicer day! Great fun and not too many crashes and between us we raised £720.00 the Jude Morris Racing Foundation! Extra special mentions to the Landlords Simon (Royal Oak at Stoford), Patrick (Helyar Arms East Coker), Pete (Quicksilver) and Bridget (Red House) who let us pitch up and play our pub games etc!  Also, Dawn who got the “Tea Club” involved (local Girls from the village) ,Precious (Clerk of the course and social secretary) and the Lads and Lasses who went on the 8 mile Pub to Pub cycle + all that kindly donated”
